JOB OBJECTIVE:
 
The Business Analyst acts as a bridge between the Business and the Solution Development Team / IT / External Consultants. The job holder is responsible for tasks inclusive of elicitation, analysis and documentation of business requirements; scoping and completing functional designs of process and systems solutions to business issues; and the analysis and measurement of the performance of new and existing systems and process implementations.
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
Problem and Opportunity Definition:
  • Liaise with the process initiator and interview other stakeholders to identify the business problem/ opportunity.
  • Perform root-cause analysis of the identified business problem/opportunity to ensure the right business problem/opportunity is addressed. This may involve:  
    • Identifying and rationalizing stakeholders and engaging them in discussions about the problem  domain.
    • Documentation and Analysis of existing business procedures and processes at various and  suitable levels of abstraction/granularity.  
    • Documentation and Analysis of existing systems at various and suitable levels of  abstraction/granularity.
  • Get consensus (Sign-Off) from stakeholders about the business problem / opportunity and ensure buy in is obtained on the issue that is to be addressed.
  • Produce Business Problem / Opportunity Definition Document or Business Case
 
Business Requirements analysis , management and documentation:
  • Perform analysis to get a definition of what is the desired outcomes to address the Problem/ Opportunity identified. 
  • Elicit and list out the various needs of stakeholders in terms of future state of the business, utilizing various techniques that include but are not limited to interviews, questionnaires and workshops.
  • Rationalize requirements by priority and category.
  • Control and Manage changes to requirements.
  • Get consensus (Sign-Off) from stakeholders about the desired outcomes from business problem/ opportunity and ensure buy-in is obtained that these are the key outcomes desired.
  • Produce Business Requirements Document.
 
Functional Requirements Analysis and Documentation: 
  • Identify all Technical Stakeholders in the Process and Elicit information in order to: 
    • Understand the high level technical architecture in which the functional solution will reside.
    • Gain consensus on the framework and approach to designing the functional solution.
  • Utilizing Business Requirements document and the stakeholder feedback, define high level functional components of the system ensuring traceability between the business requirements and the functional components of the system. Design appropriate data, process and behavioral models that reflect the visible behavior of the system/solution.
  • Verify the functional design with end users and technical stakeholders.
  • Collate and document the Functional specifications of the Solution that clearly define to developers, testers and technical architects how a system or process should behave.
  • Get consensus (Sign-Off) from stakeholders about that the identified Functional Specifications.
  • Liaise with Technical Architect and developers to assist them in interpreting functional design in the development of their technical specifications.
  • Liaise with Test team to ensure that they understand the functional design components and associated test conditions when they are developing their test plan.
 
Testing:
  • Utilize the Business Requirements Document to produce User Acceptance Test Conditions.
  • Utilize the Functional Specification Document to produce Functional Test Conditions.
  • Take ownership of the User acceptance testing process.
  • Take a consulting role in the functional and systems integration testing processes.
 
Secondary support and consulting roles:
  • Participate in technical design and architecture meetings and discussions, informing the Technical architects or consultants on the functional and business requirements where necessary in the translation of requirements into technical designs.
  • Liaise with Test Lead and Test Resources consulting with them on functional specifications in the translation of the specifications into a test plan and test scripts.
  • Provide guidance and consultancy to test team re User acceptance testing and functional testing as Functional Expert. 
  • Utilize test feedback from test team to assess errors and issues in terms of specified criteria and classify and rank the errors/issues.
  • Liaise with developers to resolve errors/issues in line with predetermined and specified resolution criteria.
  • Provide support to the Business on miscellaneous issues within area of expertise.
 Innovation, Research and Development:
  • Actively and continuously research new frameworks, methodologies, tools and techniques in the domain of business and systems improvement and re-engineering projects and will assist in providing direction in the continuous improvement of the PMO Unit.
  • Research potentially new and innovative solutions to business problems and will present or discuss ideas amongst project team communicating recommendations for change.
                                                                                                            
EDUCATION:
  • Base Qualifications
    • First Degree in a Technical or Analytical field (e.g. Finance. Engineering, Computing) or a good Honors degree with equivalent technical training.
    • 5 C.X.C. / CSEC passes including Mathematics and English Language.
    • 2 A’ Level/ CAPE passes.
  • Additional qualifications that would be of value:
    • SQL Server/ Oracle or any recognized Database and/or Business Intelligence Certifications
    • FLMI Design
    • ation
    • A Post Graduate qualification in a business or IT field will be considered an asset

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in Business Process Reengineering or an IT related field or project environment.
  • Experience on Information Systems Development Life Cycle and its various components which include, but are not limited to, Requirements Analysis, Process, and Systems Design, programming, testing and deployment.
  • Working knowledge of Structured and Object Oriented Systems Analysis and design methods.
  • Working knowledge of contemporary programming languages such as Java or C+,C++,C# will be considered an asset
  • Experience with reporting tools and techniques and at least two (2) years utilizing reporting software.
  • Experience with the use of Process Mapping, UML BPMN and ERD diagrams in documenting business requirements. 
  • Experience with the use of SQL/ T-SQL or other database languages
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the financial services sector preferably insurance experience with knowledge of Life, Pension and Health Insurance processes and products.
