Job Summary
The Manager, Legal Services, reports to the CEO. This Manager is responsible for Contracts, Leases, Legal Investigations and facilitating Investors with various approvals. His/Her primary role is to protect the legal interests of the Authority and to ensure that it operates within the law as it relates to the SEZ Act, 2022, as well as other relevant legislation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
a. Drafting and reviewing legal documents and executing Contracts, for example, with Investors
b. Developing standard Lease agreements and executing the Lease Agreements.
c. Providing guidance and support to the Compliance and Inspection Department with regard to investors’ approvals of a diverse nature
d. Providing legal advice and guidance to the CEO, senior management, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders
e. Developing and implementing legal policies and procedures
f. Managing disputes and litigation including engaging with external legal counsel when necessary.
g. Keeping abreast of changes in laws and regulations and advising the Authority on any potential impacts; for example, changes in contract and procurement law, the granting and setting the terms and conditions of Licenses and counsel to the Authority “to amend, vary, suspend or revoke Licences in accordance with the provisions of the Act”
h. Issuing and clarifying guidelines as regards Operator Licences granted under Section 37 of the Act.
i. Developing and executing MOUs and other agreements with other SEZ Authorities and similar-type organizations
Qualifications and Experience
a. Qualified Attorney at Law duly registered with the Trinidad and Tobago Bar Association. A minimum of seven(7) years’ experience in a Law Firm or with the State Solicitor’s Office developing and executing contracts, leases, and other legal requirements.
b. Proven knowledge of corporate law and regulations
c. Strong negotiation and decision- making skills
d. Strong Drafting and interpersonal skills Knowledge of real estate development would be an asset.
