Position: Customs Clerk
Department: Accounts & Administration
Reports To: Customs Representative/Treasury & Administrative Manager
Purpose of the Position
To ensure the timely and accurate processing of customs documentation and clearance of cargo in compliance with all regulatory requirements, supporting the organisation’s import and export operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare and process import and export customs declarations to facilitate timely clearance of cargo.
2. Review and verify customs entries for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations.
3. Liaise with importers, exporters, shipping agents, and other stakeholders to obtain required
documentation and information for customs processing.
4. Provide guidance and respond to queries related to customs procedures, tariff classifications, duty rates, and documentation requirements.
5. Ensure all customs activities are conducted in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and
governing authorities.
6. Coordinate with customs officials and key external partners to support efficient clearance processes.
7. Monitor shipment timelines to ensure prompt clearance and minimize demurrage, storage, and related costs.
8. Examine invoices, Bills of Lading, and supporting documents to determine classification, valuation, and licensing requirements.
9. Conduct physical verification of cargo, where required, to ensure alignment with documentation and
confirm condition prior to dispatch.
10. Verify and sign off on customs documentation for export shipments to ensure timely processing and dispatch.
11. Deliver and process completed documentation with banks, shipping agents, port authorities, and
customs offices as required.
12. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and ensure data integrity across all relevant systems.
13. Address and resolve customs-related issues or complaints in a timely and professional manner.
14. Perform any other related duties as assigned by Management.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Certificate of Character
• Grade II Certification
• Five (5) O Level CXC/GCE (Mathematics and English are compulsory)
• Must possess excellent oral, written, communication skills and must be computer literate
• Must have your own vehicle
