Are you ready to shape a culture of safety in a dynamic quarry environment? We are seeking two experienced Health, Safety and Security Officers to help drive operational excellence through proactive risk management. One Officer will be stationed at Sangre Grande Office and the other at Verdant Vale.
JOB SUMMARY
The Health, Safety and Security (HSS) Officer is accountable for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of health and safety systems across the organisation. The Officer takes a proactive role in ensuring legal compliance, managing risk and fostering a proactive safety throughout the company.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the development, implementation, and review of health and safety programmes, policies, and procedures.
· Conduct and review risk assessments and job safety analyses across all operational areas.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, including the OSH Act of Trinidad and Tobago.
· Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; analyse root causes and present formal recommendations to prevent recurrence.
· Plan and deliver or coordinate health and safety training for staff at all levels, including induction, fire safety, and emergency response.
· Monitor and audit workplace conditions and practices; issue corrective action notices and track close-out.
· Maintain accurate records of all accidents, illnesses, inspections, audits, and HSS-related activities.
· Serve as a member of the Safety Committee.
· Support the coordination of regulatory inspections, external audits, and contractor HSS activities under the direction of the HSS Manager.
· Assist with conducting safety orientations for new and existing employees and contractors.
· Provide guidance and oversight to the Health & Safety Assistant in day-to-day HSS activities.
· Develop and implement systems to ensure security standing orders are executed as documented.
· Monitor and manage all security systems, including the Tour Guard System, Perimeter Intrusion Detection System, Burglar Alarm Systems and Gate Barriers.
· Perform other job-related duties as may be required from time to time
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
WORK EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience in an occupational health and safety role, preferably within an industrial, quarrying, manufacturing, or construction environment.
CORE COMPETENCIES & OTHER SKILLS:
· Strong knowledge of Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health legislation and regulatory requirements.
· Demonstrated ability to conduct accident investigations, root cause analysis, and produce formal reports.
· Competency in risk assessment methodologies and development of safe work procedures.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present findings and recommendations at all organisational levels.
· Practical, proactive and analytical approach to solving health and safety challenges.
· Practical experience in the following areas: first aid, fire safety, accident investigation, emergency response
· Strong leadership, influencing and interpersonal skills.
· Valid driver's permit.
