Laboratory Manager – Guyana Operations

Location: Georgetown / Coastal Guyana

Industry: Environmental, Industrial & Oil & Gas Support Services

Reports to: Group Technical Leadership

About the Role
Kaizen Environmental Services (Guyana) Inc. is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to lead and strengthen our Guyana laboratory operations. This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for laboratory governance, GYS170:2021 compliance, staff supervision, and operational excellence in a regulated environment.

This role is not suitable for technicians seeking their first management position. We are looking for a proven laboratory leader who can operate independently, uphold standards, and represent the laboratory with confidence to regulators and clients.

Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Leadership & Governance

• Provide full managerial oversight of laboratory operations, personnel, and workflow

• Establish discipline, accountability, and professional laboratory culture

• Ensure clear delegation, supervision, and performance management of laboratory staff

Quality & Compliance

• Lead and maintain compliance with GYS170:2021requirements

• Own laboratory documentation, Standard Operating Procedures, method validation, internal audits, and corrective actions

• Serve as the technical interface with regulators, accreditation bodies, and external auditors

Operations & Client Support

• Ensure timely, accurate, and defensible analytical results

• Support key industrial, environmental, oil & gas, and government clients

• Investigate non-conformances and client complaints and implement corrective measures

Training & Capacity Building

• Train, mentor, and upskill laboratory analysts and technicians

• Support succession planning and development of local laboratory talent

 

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Applied Science, or a related field

• Minimum 7–10 years laboratory experience, including supervisory or management responsibility

• Demonstrated, hands-on experience with GYS170:2021 laboratory systems

• Strong understanding of laboratory QA/QC, method validation, and audit processes

• Experience in environmental, industrial, oil & gas, or mining laboratories preferred

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Confidence engaging regulators, auditors, and senior clients

• Excellent documentation and technical reporting skills
