JOB SUMMARY

The Merchandising Manager (Guyana) is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the company’s merchandising strategy across the Guyana market to maximize product visibility, availability, shelf presence and sales performance. The role will lead the merchandising team and ensure consistent execution of merchandising standards across traditional trade, modern trade, wholesalers, distributors and other relevant customer channels.

The position will work closely with Sales, Marketing, Trade Marketing and Distribution to translate commercial strategies and promotional plans into effective in-market execution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Merchandising Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute the annual merchandising strategy in alignment with overall commercial and brand objectives
  • Establish and maintain merchandising standards across all relevant trade channels. 
  • Drive optimal product placement, shelf share, visibility and availability
  • Ensure effective execution of planograms, displays, POS materials, promotional stands and other visibility initiatives. 
  • Monitor compliance with agreed merchandising standards and take corrective action where required
  • Identify opportunities to improve in-store execution and strengthen brand presence. 

Team Leadership

  • Lead, supervise and develop the merchandising team across Guyana. 
  • Establish clear performance objectives, KPIs and targets for merchandising personnel. 
  • Conduct regular field coaching, performance reviews and capability-building activities. 
  • Manage merchandising schedules, territories, outlet coverage and workforce deployment. 
  • Promote a culture of accountability, discipline and high-performance execution. 

Sales & Commercial Support

  • Partner with Sales and Trade Marketing to support the execution of customer and channel strategies. 
  • Ensure merchandising activities support promotional campaigns, new product launches and commercial initiatives. 
  • Work with sales teams to identify opportunities to improve distribution, visibility and share of shelf
  • Support the implementation of customer-specific merchandising programmes

Market & Competitor Intelligence

  • Conduct regular market and outlet visits to assess execution and identify opportunities. 
  • Monitor competitor activity, pricing, displays, promotions, shelf positioning and visibility. 
  • Provide insights and recommendations to Sales and Marketing based on market observations. 
  • Track changes in customer and consumer behaviour that may impact merchandising execution. 

Performance Management & Reporting

  • Develop and monitoe merchandising KPIs, including:
    • Outlet coverage 
    • Availability 
    • Share of shelf 
    • Planogram compliance 
    • Display compliance 
    • POSM execution 
    • Promotional compliance 
    • Execution quality 
  • Prepare regular merchandising performance reports and management dashboards. 
  • Analyse performance trends and recommend improvement initiatives. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of field reports and merchandising data. 

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage merchandising-related budgets and resources effectively. 
  • Monitor the utilization and deployment of POS materials, equipment and merchandising assets. 
  • Ensure merchandising investments deliver measurable commercial value. 
  • Manage external merchandising agencies or service providers where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business Management, Sales, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification in Sales, Marketing, Trade Marketing or Merchandising would be an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in FMCG merchandising, trade marketing, sales or commercial execution.
  • At least 2–3 years' experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Proven experience managing and developing field-based teams.
  • Experience within the FMCG industry, preferably beverages, food, consumer goods or a related high-volume distribution environment.
  • Experience working across traditional trade, modern trade, wholesale and/or distributor channels.
  • Strong understanding of the Guyana retail and FMCG landscape would be an advantage.

KNOWLEDGE & TECHNICAL SKILLS

The successful candidate should have:

  • Strong knowledge of FMCG merchandising principles and practices.
  • Understanding of shelf management, planograms and point-of-sale execution.
  • Strong commercial and customer understanding.
  • Ability to analyse sales and merchandising data.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using sales reporting, merchandising or CRM systems would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of trade marketing and promotional execution.
  • Strong understanding of competitor and market analysis.
