Summary:
The Wellsite Geologist is responsible for providing on-site geological support during drilling operations, acting as the single point of contact between office-based Operations Geologists, the subsurface team, and offshore personnel. The role ensures quality control of geological operations, accurate well data interpretation, and timely communication of geological risks, while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Roles and Responsibilities
• Single point of contact for communication between office-based Operations Geologist, NWS team and the offshore team
• Collect and review required well site reference data, subsurface technical package, correlation / offset logs, maps, prognosis, and become familiar with any operational problems experienced in offset wells (to be provided by Ops Geo prior to well start up)
• Ensure cuttings samples are collected and described in accordance with the Geological Operations Plan. Provide a detailed interpretative descriptions of all cuttings
• Support root cause analysis investigations of Non-Productive Time (NPT)
• Responsible for quality control geological operations at the Wellsite
• Advise on potential geological hazards
• Act as a coordinator for the data acquisition from service providers: Logging While Drilling (LWD), wireline logging, mud logging and coring operations. Advise service company crew of program revisions, timely
• Advise Measurement While Drilling (MWD), mud logging personnel and directional drillers of all subsurface data and program requirements, quality control all subsurface data
• Act as the link between the Wellsite Leader and the mudlogging crew, and ensure the crew are briefed and focused on key geological and operational issues
• Provide the geologic interpretation of the mud log as needed to manage operations, and when total depth is reached
• Mentoring and coaching of Company badge geologists in well-site activities
• Ensure Company database is updated as requested by Company representative
Deliverables / Meetings
• Offshore: Attend morning calls, Tour meetings, Hole Section Preview and Pre-Spud meetings and review subsurface technical package
• Offshore: Attend handover meeting with Wellsite Geologist counterpart
• Offshore: Liaise regularly with Wellsite Leader and Driller to communicate upcoming Geological risks
• Onshore: Liaise with Ops Geologist on regular basis to share latest observations as dictated by activity

Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field.
• 10–20 years’ experience as a Wellsite Geologist, with exploration experience strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years’ offshore experience in the Trinidad Columbus Basin.
• Demonstrated ability to work a flexible schedule dependent on drilling activity.
• Strong track record of safe working practices and participation in rig safety programs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster collaboration between onshore and offshore teams.
