Description
JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
The Accounting Assistant will provide accounting support to the General Manager, as well as undertake various accounting tasks and assist with other administrative matters that may arise.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Maintenance of Financial Data, Statistics and related information
- Preparation of VAT Returns and Payments (Bi-Monthly).
- Preparation of Quarterly Taxes and Payments.
- Follow-up on receivables for all incoming payments from customers.
- Update costing sheet on a monthly basis inclusive of relevant price lists.
- Review export invoices to ensure accuracy.
- Preparation of statutory reports on a monthly basis (NIS, HS & PAYE) as required by Management.
- Assist in the preparation of payroll.
- Review data in QuickBooks, including, purchase journals, payment journals, Sales journals and receipt journals. Enter general journals as and when requested by the Director.
- Review and post to QuickBooks all requisition forms and inventory reports from all departments.
- Prepare revenue reports on a monthly and / or yearly basis as and when required by management.
- Assist with Net banking/E-Banking transactions.
- Review all invoices posted to QuickBooks to ensure accuracy and report any discrepancies.
- Prepare payment vouchers and cheques and update payables file for review with the Financial Director.
- Complete ALL Bank Reconciliations by the specified time and ensure an error free report.
- Assist in the reconciliation of all General Ledgers.
- Assist in issuing and maintaining petty cash float and the preparation of petty cash reimbursements.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing and posting of suppliers' purchase orders, invoices and payments.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for balance sheet and supplier accounts.
- Maintain accurate accounting records by verifying and posting account transactions to the correct sub ledger and general ledger accounts and assisting with resolving any related issues.
- Provide support to the General Manager for month end and year end close - ensure all transactions posted timely and accurately.
- Assist with audit process by preparing schedules, reconciliations, providing source documents, maintaining proper records and other reports.
- Filing of all relevant documents pertaining to duties.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures the compliance of HSSE standards and practices and applicable legislation in the execution of duties.
- Attends departmental and company meetings when required.
- Participates in annual and periodic stock counts.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Professional Accounting accreditation such as ACCA level 2 or equivalent
- 5 years relevant accounting experience
- Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS standards
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft applications
- Working knowledge of Sage & Peachtree will be an asset
- Experience in the Manufacturing Sector will be an asset
- Good organisation skills and multitasking ability
- Must be flexible, honest and reliable
- Deadline driven with attention to details
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
