Company Profile:
The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) maintains its position as the largest operating desalination facility in the Western Hemisphere. The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) at the current operating capacity of 40MIGD (million imperial gallons per day).

Desalcott is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic, suitably qualified Projects Engineer and Co-ordinator.


JOB DESCRIPTION
PROJECT ENGINEER AND CO-ORDINATOR
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Engineer and Co-Ordinator will be responsible for general engineering, general maintenance and improvement projects such as for: buildings, structures, pipelines, building services, drainage, landscaping, grounds, etc... 

This will include, but not be limited to, the following:
  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of any assigned site/project. This includes, liaising with sub-contractors, consultants, suppliers and laborers.
  2. Determining project costs by calculating labor, material, equipment and related costs.
  3. Producing engineering documents such as determining materials and quantity required, purchase requisitions, subcontractor scopes of work and request for quote (RFQ), construction specifications, drawings, plans, and schedules.
  4. Preparation of evaluation reports with recommendation based on quotes received.
  5. Confirming adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspection of construction sites, verifying calculations and placements.
  6. Maintaining project database (entering data, analyzing data, monitoring trends and completing backups). This also includes the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports for Management to be utilized in Client updates.
  7. Maintaining contractor database, including identifying new contractors based on the nature of work and expertise required.
  8. Maintaining project operations by enforcing engineering, HSE and operational policies and procedures. Also, providing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  9. Incorporating special features which relate to the project at hand into specifications. These include order of work, physical conditions at the site, construction work schedules, method of payment and measurement, construction procedures and special methods, and coordination with contractors and other stakeholders.
  10. Communicating with higher authorities on issues concerning specifications, engineering interpretations and explanations, supply of items, and items of work, and offer recommendations on reviewing specifications.
  11. Producing, reviewing and approving all sub-contract valuations based on work completed.
  12. Liaising with external sub-contractors and clients when required.
  13. Any other duties and responsibilities associated with this position as directed by the General Manager or his designate.
 
Qualifications:
  • BSc – Civil Engineering from a recognized accredited University.
  • Master’s Degree would be an asset.
                       
Experience: 
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a construction environment.
 
General Comments: 
The above duties and responsibilities are subject to change as the role develops as part of the Engineering departmental organization.
