Job Purpose

To oversee and coordinate all maintenance activities, ensuring effective execution of preventive and corrective maintenance, optimal utilization of resources, and sustained equipment reliability, in full compliance with maintenance standards, GMP, food safety, and HSE requirements.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Work Control

• Plan, prioritize, and assign preventive and corrective maintenance activities based on operational requirements and equipment criticality. 

• Ensure adherence to preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and timely completion of all assigned work. 

• Coordinate planned shutdowns, major repairs, and maintenance interventions. 

• Maintain control of maintenance backlog and drive timely closure of outstanding work. 

 

Breakdown Management & Escalation

• Oversee breakdown response to ensure timely restoration of operations.

• Ensure appropriate escalation of complex or high-impact failures and that recurring issues are identified and addressed through root cause analysis (RCA).

 

Team Coordination & Performance Control

• Direct and coordinate maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient execution in line with operational priorities.

• Monitor performance, discipline, and adherence to standards, addressing gaps and reinforcing accountability through feedback.

• Support development of technical capability through on-the-job guidance.

 

Maintenance Systems & Documentation Control

• Ensure all maintenance activities are executed through formal work order processes.

• Maintain accuracy, completeness, and traceability of maintenance records, including downtime, repairs, and materials usage. 

 

Spare Parts & Maintenance Resource Control

• Oversee utilization and control of spare parts, tools, and maintenance resources.

• Ensure availability of critical spare parts through coordination with relevant departments. 

• Monitor usage trends and support effective maintenance resource planning.

 

GMP, Food Safety & HSE Compliance (Systems & Environment)

• Ensure maintenance activities comply with GMP, Food Safety, and HSE standards and do not compromise product quality or hygienic conditions.

• Enforce sanitation, line clearance, permit-to-work, LOTO, and hazard control requirements. 

 

Health & Safety Leadership (Behaviour & Enforcement)

• Enforce compliance with all safety procedures and safe systems of work. 

• Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety requirements across the team. 

• Identify, address, and escalate unsafe conditions, incidents, or non-compliance. 

 

Maintenance Performance Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor key maintenance performance indicators, including downtime, response time, PM compliance, and backlog. 

• Identify trends, risks, and areas for improvement and implement corrective actions at an operational level. 

 

Maintenance Support (Strategic & Developmental)

• Provide operational support in the planning and execution of maintenance-related initiatives, including capital projects, equipment upgrades, and improvement activities. 

• Support implementation of reliability and maintenance improvement initiatives as directed. 

• Provide input on equipment performance, maintenance needs, and replacement requirements to support planning and decision-making. 

• Support monitoring of maintenance-related costs and resource utilization, providing relevant operational input. 

 

Operational Support & Flexibility

• Provide operational support across maintenance activities to ensure continuity of plant performance and coordinate response to urgent or plant-critical situations. 

• Perform any other related duties consistent with the role and operational needs of the department. 

 

Qualifications & Experience required

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline

• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a maintenance or industrial environment, with demonstrated exposure to equipment maintenance and operational support

• At least 2–3 years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a manufacturing or industrial setting

• Proven experience coordinating maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance, breakdown response, and resource allocation

• Experience in food manufacturing or regulated environments (GMP/HACCP) would be an asset

Physical Demands

• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and active production areas 

• Ability to move across plant areas regularly, including standing, walking, climbing, and accessing equipment in operational environments 

• Ability to attend to breakdowns and operational issues promptly, which may require extended or irregular working hours 

• Ability to operate within both office and plant environments, balancing administrative responsibilities with on-floor supervision
