Job purpose
The Optician’s primary responsibility is to create and maintain an exceptional customer experience for Value Optical’s customers through the management of quality eye care services and quality products, delivered in a timely and professional manner.
The position holder is also responsible for receipt and analysis of patients’ prescriptions for spectacles or contact lenses, taking measurements for the dispensing of eyewear, repairs and adjustments to suit the patients’ needs and advising them on suitable eyewear options and general handling.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Evaluates prescription in conjunction with patient’s occupational and recreational visual requirements. Make recommendations to patients on type of lenses, lens coating and frames to suit patient’s needs.
· Take measurements of patients’ pupillary distance, vertex distance, segment heights and optical centres using the available tools such as the Smart mirror and other tools. Determine patient’s current prescription (neutralizing), when necessary, using lensometer and patient’s eyeglasses.
· Review work order for the optical lab, containing specific instructions for grinding and mounting prescription lenses into frames.
· Responsible for verification and authorization of all daily branch work orders prior to dispatch to the lab; double checking all information including prescription, measurements and pricing to ensure accuracy.
· Verify tolerance of finished lens to specifications on delivery from the lab; inspecting lens and frame to ensure a quality finished product.
· Heats, shapes or bends plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit patients face properly and comfortably using pliers or hands. This includes performing minor repairs at branches, including re-inserting lenses, replacing screws, and minor re-alignment.
· Dispense eyeglasses to patients, instructing patients in adapting to wearing and caring for eyeglasses.
· Assist in trouble shooting patients’ complaint/s to identify and determine root cause of the problem and offer resolution. Review defective and/or damaged lens and frames to identify human or mechanical problems and further escalated to the Technical Director, Acting Retail Operations Manager or designated representative.
SUNDRY
· Providing information and assisting with queries in a courteous, professional and efficient manner.
· Assist the Accounting Department with inventory count at stores on a quarterly basis.
Qulifications
· MS Suite/Office 365 Proficient
· ABOC qualified and registered with the Trinidad and Tobago Optician’s Registration Council (TTORC)
· Over 5 years’ experience as an Optician in a fast-paced retail environment.
