Job Purpose
The Production Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing production activities during the assigned shift to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of the production plan. The role is accountable for allocating manpower, coordinating workflow, supporting schedule adherence, and ensuring compliance with safety and GMP standards, while providing day-to-day direction and guidance to production staff. The Production Coordinator translates production schedules into disciplined floor execution and serves as the primary operational contact and escalation point during the shift.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Production Coordination & Shift Support
• Coordinate daily production activities during the assigned shift in line with approved production plans and priorities.
• Support smooth workflow across production areas by helping to sequence tasks and manage work flow.
• Monitor production progress and flag delays, constraints, or issues that may impact schedule adherence.
Manpower & Resource Coordination
• Assist with the allocation of production staff to work areas based on shift needs and production priorities.
• Provide day-to-day guidance to production staff to support effective task execution.
• Notify the Production Supervisor of staffing challenges, skill gaps, or attendance issues.
Schedule Support & Execution
• Support the execution of shift-level production schedules by coordinating start-ups, changeovers, and handovers.
• Adjust work sequencing during the shift, within agreed guidelines, to respond to routine operational issues.
• Communicate production priorities and updates to the team during the shift.
Quality, Safety & GMP Support
• Promote and support compliance with GMP, food safety, hygiene, and safety standards on the production floor.
• Observe work practices and raise non-compliance, safety concerns, or quality issues for corrective action.
• Support implementation of corrective actions as directed.
Operational Issue Coordination
• Act as the first point of contact during the shift for routine operational issues such as minor equipment interruptions or material shortages.
• Coordinate with Maintenance, QA, or Warehouse teams to support issue resolution.
• Escalate significant issues, risks, or incidents to the Production Supervisor.
Documentation & Information Flow
• Support the availability and correct use of production documentation, batch records, and worksheets.
• Review documentation for completeness before submission and flag discrepancies for correction.
• Share shift-level updates and observations with the Production Supervisor at shift end.
Shift Communication & Handover
• Assist with shift handovers by communicating production status, outstanding tasks, and known issues.
• Support continuity of operations between shifts through clear communication.
Skills & knowledge required
• Strong working knowledge of manufacturing operations and shift supervision.
• Practical understanding of production scheduling, manpower planning, and workflow control.
• Sound knowledge of GMP, food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety requirements.
• Ability to make timely operational decisions under pressure.
• Strong communication, leadership, and team-management skills.
• Ability to enforce standards fairly, consistently, and professionally.
Qualifications & Experience required
• Associate Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Operations, Engineering Technology, Business Operations, or a related field.
• Minimum 4–6 years’ experience in a manufacturing or food production environment.
• Prior experience as a Shift Supervisor, Line Supervisor, Senior Operator, or Lead Hand is required.
• Demonstrated experience supervising staff, coordinating production activities, and managing shift execution.
• Working knowledge of production documentation, reporting, and basic production performance metrics.
Physical Demands
• Required to spend the majority of the shift on the production floor.
• Prolonged standing and walking across multiple production areas.
• Occasional bending, reaching, stair climbing, and navigating around equipment.
• Comfortable working in a food manufacturing environment with noise, varying temperatures, and mandatory PPE use.
