POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Hauler Driver is responsible for operating hauler truck and trailer combinations to transport cargo, materials, and/or equipment between specified locations. This role is crucial for ensuring the timely and safe delivery of cargo while adhering to all safety regulations and company policies. The Hauler Driver must maintain a high level of professionalism and focus on safety, both on the road and when loading or unloading cargo.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vehicle Operation:
o Operate hauler truck and trailer combinations safely and efficiently, following all traffic laws and company guidelines.
o Plan and follow the most efficient routes to ensure timely deliveries.
o Maneuver vehicles in tight spaces, including loading docks and customer locations, with precision.
2. Cargo Handling:
o Ensure that cargo is properly secured and distributed to prevent shifting
or damage during transit.
o Assist with loading and unloading cargo when necessary, using appropriate equipment such as the sideloader.
o Inspect cargo to verify that it matches the delivery documentation and is free from damage.
3. Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections:
o Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking for any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
o Perform post-trip inspections to identify any maintenance needs and report them to the maintenance team.
o Ensure that the vehicle is clean and well-maintained at all times.
4. Safety Compliance:
o Follow all safety protocols and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
o Adhere to hours-of-service regulations to avoid driver fatigue and ensure safe operation.
o Report any accidents, incidents, or traffic violations to the dispatch and/or workshop team immediately.
5. Documentation and Record Keeping:
o Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including bills of lading, job tickets , and any other required documentation.
6. Customer Interaction:
o Interact with customers professionally, ensuring that deliveries are made according to schedule and that any customer concerns are addressed.
o In the event concerns are beyond the driver’s scope of knowledge, dispatch supervisor is to be contacted.
o Obtain customer signatures and any necessary documentation upon delivery.
7. Communication and Coordination:
o Communicate regularly with dispatchers and logistics teams to receive instructions and updates on delivery schedules.
o Notify the company of any delays, route changes, or issues encountered during transit.
o Work collaboratively with other drivers and logistics personnel to ensure smooth operations.
8. Compliance with Company Policies:
o Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, vehicle operation, and conduct.
o Participate in any required training programs and stay updated on best practices and regulatory changes.
o Any other duties assigned that are within the scope of a Hauler Driver.
QUALIFICATION and Experience:
A sound Secondary Education. Must be able to read and write.
Certification in Heavy Duty Vehicle Operation
Proven work experience as a Truck Driver
Valid truck driving license
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) when necessary.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving long distances.
• Physical stamina and alertness required for long hours of operation.
Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
Knowledge and skills in operating Hauler and other heavy-duty vehicle
No recent driving violations
Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations; such as, traffic and weather conditions.
Good communication skills
Attention to detail
Dedicated and a good team player
Pleasant personality and customer service oriented.
Sound work ethics.
