POSITION SUMMARY
To support the operations of the plant by performing maintenance duties - all welding and fabrication jobs, throughout the Mill and the Workshop, to effectively meet the Department’s operational goals in safety, reliability, uptime, efficiency and cost.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
RESPONSIBILITES
1. Layout, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straight edges and measuring tools to ensure conformance with specifications.
2. Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions on plant equipment and fabricated components to ASME standards.
3. Fabricate and assemble components according to specifications.
4. Assist in scoping and planning welding and fabricating jobs.
5. Monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion and expansion of plant equipment and materials.
6. Respond to and resolve “Break In” jobs in a timely manner.
7. Report all non-conforming materials to the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent or designate.
8. Ensure proper housekeeping in the assigned or project area as well as cleanliness of the machines and equipment, in line with company standards.
9. Complete any documentation as required by the department.
10. Contribute to the overall performance and efficiency of the Maintenance Department.
11. Attend Department or other company meetings as required.
12. Adhere to, actively promote and ensure compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety Policies.
13. Report any unsafe acts immediately to your Direct Supervisor; operate in a safe manner, using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
14. Execute all relevant responsibilities as outlined in the Roles, Responsibilities and Authorities Matrix (MT-GM-004) to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS).
15. Perform any other related duties that may be assigned.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
A minimum of five (5) O’Level / CSEC passes including Mathematics and English (I & II)
Welding Certificate or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in industrial welding of steel pipes and plates.
Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, welding process specifications, welding symbols / drawings and handling measuring instruments.
Demonstrated knowledge of Brazing, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
Experience in performing 6G pipe welding, 6G TIG in carbon and stainless-steel pipes and plates.
Knowledge of job planning, scoping and schedule compliance.
Ability to select suitable tools for tasks assigned.
